Molten Mode Guide

Molten Mode is the standard survival playlist in TDS: Reforged, formerly labeled Normal mode. It spans 35 waves and culminates in the Molten Warlord boss encounter. This page covers the mode structure, economy rules, boss mechanics, and how to build a consistent clear loadout.

Mode overview

Molten Mode holds the middle ground between Casual and Hardcore playlists. It is the default queue when you launch Vince Games’ place, and the benchmark most players use to measure loadout strength before venturing into specialty modes.

Key facts:

  • 35 waves with a boss finale (Molten Warlord)
  • Economy is kill-based: cash only from enemy kills or specific damage thresholds
  • Molten Executioner mini-boss appears on Wave 30 with health regen and a stun ability
  • Available as a daily and weekly challenge in the specialty rotation

Economy in Molten Mode

Unlike modes where cash accumulates passively, Molten Mode only grants cash when an enemy is killed—or in limited cases, when a specific amount of damage is dealt. This creates a different pacing pressure: you cannot bank aggressively early, and you must keep enemy count low to avoid income stalls.

The cash-per-kill amount is fixed, not scaled to enemy HP. A weak enemy killed quickly pays the same as one you barely scraped by. This rewards efficient damage and punishes sloppy early waves where you leak small enemies that still cost you income.

Molten Executioner (Wave 30 mini-boss)

The Molten Executioner appears mid-run on Wave 30 with:

  • High HP pool with 2% health regeneration every 2 seconds
  • Slow movement speed
  • Execution Day ability: targets one tower, slams it with a hammer, and stuns it for 8 seconds

Counter the stun by repositioning a secondary tower before the ability lands. Do not rely on a single carry through this wave.

Molten Warlord (Wave 35 finale)

The Molten Warlord is the defining boss of Molten Mode. It has a massive HP pool and multiple attack phases. Dedicated boss-killing towers—Enforcer, Golden Minigunner, or Executioner—should be fully funded and positioned before Wave 35 begins.

Save your sell window for the transition. If early waves underperformed, sell underperformers at Wave 30 and re-deploy for the boss.

Loadout for Molten Mode

A Molten Mode loadout needs a complete five-slot plan:

  1. Early chip — affordable DPS for waves 1-10 without leaking small enemies
  2. Economy — income or farm to fund mid-game spike
  3. Control — Slowing Towers to maximize time-on-target for your carry
  4. Sustained DPS — Golden Minigunner or equivalent for extended fights
  5. Boss carry — Enforcer or Executioner for the Molten Warlord finale

How Molten compares to other modes

  • Solo Hardcore — Hardcore resets on death; Molten is a fixed 35-wave run
  • Fallen Mode — Fallen cycles modifier combinations; Molten has a known fixed structure
  • Casino Mode — Casino adds rule variance; Molten tests consistent loadout execution
  • Death Invasion — different enemy compositions and boss pacing
  • Polluted Core — toxic/wasteland theme with different boss mechanics

After patches

When Live Status or Patch Notes move, re-test one Molten Mode clear to confirm economy breakpoints and boss HP still match your loadout. The Molten Executioner (Wave 30) stun timing occasionally changes with balance updates.

Log your Molten Mode clears: map, leak wave, which slot you changed, and whether the Molten Warlord felt manageable. That log feeds into Solo Hardcore preparation.
