TDS Reforged Boss Strategy Guide

TDS: Reforged ships custom bosses that differ from official Tower Defense Simulator encounters. Each boss arrives with unique HP pools, speed modifiers, and special abilities. This page matches every documented boss with the tower and loadout response that clears it consistently.

Use this guide alongside the Hardcore Tier List and Solo Hardcore when your run hits the boss spike around wave 25-40.

Boss counter framework

Every boss counter follows three steps:

  1. Identify the boss type — HP tank, speed runner, spawner, or hybrid
  2. Select the counter role — single-target burst, AoE burst, slow/stun, or detection
  3. Adjust one loadout slot — do not rebuild five slots for one boss; swap the flex

If you do not know the boss type, default to single-target burst with slowing utility from Slowing Towers.

Boss types and counters

HP Tank bosses

High-HP enemies that absorb damage and move slowly. Counter with sustained single-target DPS from Enforcer, Golden Minigunner, or Executioner (when available). Do not use splash-focused towers—wasted pierce on a single target.

Keep a slow/stun utility active so the tank stays inside the carry beam longer.

Speed runner bosses

Fast enemies that rush past your defense before you can deal lethal damage. Counter with hard slows from Slowing Towers, high-frequency DPS, or stun-lock strategies. Golden Ace Pilot and air coverage help when the speed runner uses alternate paths.

In Death Invasion, speed runners often accompany large spawns—AoE plus control.

Spawner bosses

Bosses that release smaller enemies during the encounter. Counter with sustained AoE that handles both the boss and the adds. Golden Toxic Gunner and splash towers work well. Prioritize boss damage; if the adds leak, a dedicated flex handles them.

Hybrid bosses

The most dangerous type: combines HP tank durability with speed or spawner mechanics. Counter with a balanced loadout: single-target DPS for the boss, AoE for adds, and slow for pacing. Harder to counter than pure types—run a full five-slot board with no filler.

Loadout adjustment per boss

Change only the flex slot when preparing for a boss spike:

  • Tank boss: swap flex to highest single-target DPS available
  • Speed boss: swap flex to slow/stun specialist
  • Spawner boss: swap flex to AoE coverage
  • Hybrid boss: keep flex as detection or sell toward a second carry

Do not rebuild the entire board between waves. One swap per boss encounter keeps your economy stable.

Mode-specific boss pressure

  • Standard maps — bosses arrive wave 25-40; prepare at wave 20
  • Hardcore — bosses hit harder and faster; recheck Solo Hardcore pacing
  • Death Invasion — mixed boss + spawner waves; run AoE flex
  • Polluted Core — boss HP scaled up; fund earlier carry placement
  • PVP — opponent’s boss pressure is unknown; default to balanced flex

Boss failure review

Leaked on a boss? Write down:

  • Boss type (tank / speed / spawner / hybrid)
  • Wave number
  • Which loadout slot you had in the flex
  • What killed the leak (boss damage or adds)

Compare notes with the Wave Checklist so the next session has a specific hypothesis.

After every Vince Games patch, recheck boss HP and speed values. Bosses are high-stakes encounters; small percentage changes shift the counter tier.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the hardest boss type in Reforged?

Hybrid bosses combine tank durability with speed or spawner mechanics. They require a balanced board with no weak slots.

Should I sell my economy tower before a boss wave?

Only if you have positive cash flow and the sell funds a carry upgrade before the boss spawns. Otherwise, keep economy and adjust the flex.

Do bosses scale differently in Hardcore?

Yes. Hardcore bosses have higher damage output and sometimes higher HP. Recheck Solo Hardcore pacing.

Can I counter every boss with the same loadout?

A balanced board with single-target DPS, AoE, and slow covers most bosses. One flex swap per boss type is enough for standard maps.

Where do I see upcoming boss types in a run?

Boss type is revealed when the wave starts. Prepare at wave 20 using the framework above.
